A Cat's Lingering Warmth

She creeps behind a corner,
scoping out possible places to rest.
She finds a suitable one beside me,
so she leaps up and makes herself cozy.
I reach over to pet her silky fur,
so she began to pur.
Her bliss came to an abrupt halt.
I realized I had pet her too much when she looked at me as if I was at fault.
She let out a menacing growl.
Her mood had become foul.
She now sits atop a leathery chair,
just watching and judging with a menacing stare.
Her warmth beside me lingered,
though she was no longer there.
