Pretending
Pretending
A tool to help the mending
Of a broken part,
Or the cracks in your heart,
Or the dark, evil side
Of the thoughts, you hide.
Pretending
Helps at first
As it covers the dirt
Of your mind
And clears all the rubble,
But only until someone might find
Some key or shovel
To unlock and untwine
The secrets you hide.
Pretending
Swallowing you whole
Until you aren’t you
But nearly a mirror image of your soul,
And those around you
Don't notice
Until they too
Are consumed
By pretending.

I think that with social media, etc. there is so much pressure on teenage girls to look and act a certain way or be a certain type. I think many of us pretend to be something we are not in order to fit that image. Or we pretend in order to cover up the pain we feel because it is much easier than dealing with it. But then after pretending for so long, you eventually lose who you really are.
