It Hurts Knowing. . .
It hurts knowing who you are,
When you aren’t good enough for you,
And all your friends will make due.
All your dreams have fallen through.
But sometimes you have to give into
A world without you.
It hurts knowing who you are
And all your unwanted scars
That you hide in your arms,
Not striking any alarms
Because you hate you for you
And the world too.
It hurts knowing who you are
When you let yourself burn,
Without any concern,
And no place left to turn.
But I love knowing who I am
When I am not me.
Because when I am me
It hurts.
It burns.
It scars.
It hurts when you know who you are.

I tend to be someone who is very hard on myself. I have goals that are extremely important to me, and when I fall short of my own expectations I get angry and have difficulty channeling those emotions. In trying poetry for school, I found a way of doing just that. And with free verse, I do not feel the pressure for something to be perfect.
