There was a dark and decrepit crypt.

In which not one of us lipped.

It was a very dark crypt in which I then tripped.

When I fell there sat a rat.

I got up and told it to scat.

My friend helped me up but he seemed very troubled.

I asked him what left him befuddled. 

He said the war uptop left him scared.

And if we went back we wouldn't be spared

The Further we went  the more lost we got

We continued moving through the crypt until we forgot our spot.

Until suddenly in the crypt I was shot.

My friend was caught but soon got shot because he fought.

And what the soldier said before leaving was “you can rot.”

In the decrepit crypt we never returned

 After the war all of France yearned.

From a war that was a tragedy and left France raggedy.
