if you had asked me

where i'm from 5 years ago

i’d say: i’m from maui, hawai’i

a beautiful island in western america

i’ve had much more time to think about it now

so, if you had asked me that same question now

i’d have much more to say than an actual place

i'm from naivety

as everyone whispered beautiful lies to me

lies so beautiful that it could cut you

through the middle, from head to toe

once you uncovered the truth

i'm from a long line of addiction

whether it’s drugs, alcohol, abuse, even people

i am a sick addict, that’s slowly dying

with tears rolling down my face until

i'm nothing besides thoughts racing around the room

finding the only relief in the thing i'm addicted to

i'm from anger

not the kind that makes you yell in passion and turn to violence

but the kind of anger that’s built up over time

when my blood would start to boil

my gears would turn

and my soul being torn apart

yet i would do nothing about it 

besides push it down til i can’t feel it

i'm from stress

trying to live up to everyone’s expectations

with hardworking restless nights

just to not be able to express my feelings 

because i'm “too young to feel that”
