13th Amendment

I, too, yearn for my freedom

I’m the history that repeats itself

I feel weak and thin but I must make a way

Not considered a person, so who am I to say?

I’d raise my glass if I could

I’d stomp my feet if the noise wouldn't harm me.

I’ve been misled to believe all men were free

Except I still feel the shackles bolted down on my hands and feet.

I, too, yearn for my freedom

A hurt I could not hide from the eyes

They burn through me like  wildfire

Ready to rise I shine but to whom they’ve dimmed my light

They've forced my future down my throat

I feel all alone like a ragged boat

I can’t be the only one to feel this way

No matter what size or shape

I refuse to sit and allow this

Bigotry to amuse the faces of those who do not know

Who do not know the endeavors

The trials and tribulations

The alligator’s presence

The merciless sound of the whip when it’s in captivation

Cuts so deep not even god could heal

I hope this wasn’t real but to be blind is unreal

I too, yearn for my freedom

The poem is based on the slavery era and the feelings surrounded by controversial emotions like anger, hate, and hope.  It allows you to somewhat visualize the atmosphere that caved in on the innocent souls of the 1800’s.
