Mirror
Coward in front of the mirror,
Force you to face yourself.
To find yourself in the reflection that isn’t yours,
You couldn’t see anything clearer.
Some say the soul could be seen in the eyes,
Others say that mirrors could show truth when you lie,
But you know that the dark eyes that stared back
Was your own.
Even if the faces that blurred over yours
Were similar in structure and only slightly shifted in tone.
Some had terrifying grins and a deceptive hum,
Some had wide mouths that caught the tears that fell into them,
But most stared back blankly.
Barely is seen the you that stands here now,
Hands on the counter in a knuckle bruising grip,
Lips trembling faintly.
