Where I Am From
I am from my soft, pastel yellow room,
From my carebear collection
And disney sing-a-longs.
I am from pigtails and ponytails
And later on ballet buns,
From park playdates and juice boxes
And lots of fun in the sun.
I am from the little ranch that lives on a slant,
From no air conditioning
And hot summers spent outside.
I’m from this little town of Royal Oak,
From living in the same house all my life
And liking things the way they are.
I am from taking one dance class when I was six
To competing 15 dances at competition,
From the passion and love I have for dance
To the pain and need for attention.
I am from bruised knees to broken arms
From being told no
And that I’ll never be good enough,
From tears and tears
And lots of fears
To where I am today
Now I’m from the confidence I gained from all the pain
From being crowned the winner
And dancing in the rain
I’m from strong friendships and a loving family
I hope that never goes away
From being kind and caring and much more happy
Celebrating the little joys that come with each day
