Existing or Living
There is a fine line between existing and living.
One can be alive,
But not truly live.
Existing is an endless daily cycle:
Wake up.
Eat.
Work.
Sleep.
Arise the following day,
And this rotation will greet you once more.
The void in our souls that seeks for true belonging
Remains unsatiated:
A thirst ceaselessly unquenched.
Living is not merely passing through life.
It is experiencing what life reaches out to us in gifts of generous offering.
Living is not a drive where
“Are we there yet?”
Is asked with a pang of impatience.
Those who live are those who say,
“Enjoy the journey.”
The ride of simply existing is a straight road:
No slopes,
No curves,
No scenic views along the way.
Those who live are those who travel along a path
Where there are indeed sharp turns and steep hills
Bumps and potholed indents,
But imperfection is what makes life beautiful.
Break the cycle that you are a slave to enduring.
Say the words your heart yearns to articulate.
Face the challenges you dread encountering.
Conquer your fears and bask in the resulting triumph.
Don’t just exist.
Live.

Many people who hold goals and ambitions in their hearts spend days upon end waiting for the "right moment" to take a risk in an attempt to reach these dreams. Some people may not try something new because they are constrained by self-doubt or fear that they will be judged by others; however, none of us live forever. It is better to take a chance with a possibility of success than to look back at a missed opportunity with regret. With this in mind, I aimed to create a poem that would convince readers to live their lives to the fullest.
