Expectations
The expectations I carry on my back
Don't outweigh the torture
In my head.
I fight the urge to surrender,
The fight killing be slowly,
Yet steadily,
With every breath,
With every thought.
Every obligation and expectation
Drilling a hole in my soul,
But the expectations I carry on my back
Don't outweigh the torture
In my head.
The weight on my back doesn't kill me,
Not for the strength I possess,
But for the weight of the pressure in my head-
all-consuming,
everlasting.
