Halted Healing
always taught that Disciplined tear ducts were once
the foundation of strength. Liquid passion,
never to falter—to flounder—to fall.
to Cry was to bare the soul, show the cards.
lids tightly fastened on each and every thought,
forcing the Heart into a mangled metronome.
But why have tear ducts if we’re not meant
to have our sorrows to Seep now and again?
realizing the uncomfortable,
yet necessary lump, Lodged in our throats
like a half-swallowed pill, keeps from
delaying the Healing.
as clouds Shamelessly trickle their rain,
I have learned to follow their natural way.
their lament saturates the Earth; yields new growth
and new teachings. because strength does not equate to
unbreakability. Stability
and spirit does not come from
smothering our Senses and naming it Willpower;
It comes from a flowing and rhythmic Heart.

Talking with friends about the pressure to suppress your emotions inspired me to write this piece. I hope people take away from this poem that it's natural and healthy to feel your emotions instead of bottling them up.
