The Stage and Diploma
Graduating.
The feelings of excitement, thrills, pride filling the air.
The day you have been waiting for.
The tradition of throwing your cap in the air.
The tradition of moving your tassel to the other side.
The tradition of walking up to get your diploma.
You finally are ready to be Graduating high school.
Waiting.
Putting on your cap and gown,
Looking at yourself in the mirror.
Excitement fills your body.
Pictures, hugs, laughter, being with your friends.
All the best feelings in the world–
but, as you get to your seat Waiting for the ceremony to start
it feels as though your body cannot handle it.
Like an earthquake is about to rupture
beneath you.
Walking.
Feels never ending.
Like an infinity loop of Walking around and around in circles.
Over and Over again.
The nerves creeping up my body,
Infecting me with their venom.
As I reach the stairs,
see the principal holding out their hand.
Receiving.
I walk across the stage and I see everyone watching me.
Blah Blah Blah
Is all I hear–
Oh,
That is my name.
I quickly walk across the stage.
Nerves infecting me.
Walking around in a loop.
Feeling nauseous.
Then a piece of paper hits my hand.
Everything stops.
The feeling of finally Receiving my diploma
made those never ending feelings go away.
Conclusion.
The excitement finally filled me.
I did it.
I walked back to my seat.
Everything was over.
Excitement filled me until the sadness became numb.
The sadness filled me as I realized,
This is the Conclusion.
The ending of my life I have known since I was 7.
Everyone will be gone.
I will never see some of the people again.
But the excitement never left
as I enjoyed every last moment of the day
