when i think of you
when i think of you,
the world suddenly stops
rotating on its axis
and the moon and sun stop turning.
the sea stops flowing and the waves stop crashing
onto the sand that no longer burns below my feet,
and the trees stop swaying in the wind
which no longer blows kisses in the air,
and the clouds stop shape shifting
and the stars stop connecting,
and everything stops moving.
like the grass stopped growing.
my heart stops for a split second before sprinting
through my chest and up my throat until i can feel it
all throughout my body pumping the red in my veins
turning my face velvet and burning to the touch
until steam is fuming off of my body,
and then my nerves start buzzing around
like bees in a pot full of honey,
and i can’t seem to calm my breathing
as my chest sinks and rises like a boat in a hurricane.
my stomach starts twisting and turning,
my heart taking up too much space in my narrow chest
which starts to get closer and closer as i see you walking
near me step by step, inch by inch
and my butterflies go wild,
jumping and craving your touch and they
dont stop flying as your lips cross mine
and their wings send me flying into the clouds
where all my dreams come true with you
heaven is the only place i believe in because
my butterflies were sent by the angels above
and they brought you with them
because they knew i needed you the most
and i’m so happy they did because now i know what they
mean when they say
i have butterflies.

I find writing is an outlet to help me express my feelings. This poem is about someone I care deeply about who I cannot see every day. I miss them so much and this is for them :)
