The Pine
Pine trees sprout from the ground,
Gnarled roots snagged into the earth
The bark grays with age while
Sap seeps between the crevices,
Leaving a sweet and earthy fragrance
The wind whistles through the wooded serene,
While the leaves cry and sing
Crickets chirp to join in their song,
And the birds don’t hesitate to caw along
Youthful cacti shelter beneath pine’s branches
They bloom glaring-yellow flowers,
Petals outstretched towards the sky,
Hoping for a high-five
The cones and needles of pine
Cloak the forest floor,
Amber in color and crestfallen
They no longer have their perch
Upon the bird’s earth
The leaves rustling up above are parakeet green,
Left peeking through the crannies are marigold beams
The faint glow illuminates the forest until the sun had dipped behind the trees,
Enshrouding the darkness and leaving the scene serene.

I wrote this poem about a picture I saw, all about a pine forest.
