Thank You
For the moms that heal
Wounds and hearts we thank you
To the sun and moon
Our bright reminder of life
We say thank you
As we share our secrets
With the pen and paper, we thank you
From the treetops where the bird’s nest lies
To the ground where the beautiful flowers flourish
We say thank you
While the clouds hold the calm rain
In their comforting arms, we say thank you
And to the road signs that tell us
Where we’ve come from and where we’re going
We thank you
When we sit on the wooden benches
And watch the stars twinkle we say thank you
For the houses protecting the families
From the winds that carry danger
We thank you
Though the stars do not shine
As bright for you anymore
We are saying thank you

This poem was inspired by Thanks by W.S. Merwin. I was instructed to reflect on objects that are not normally shown gratitude as I write. After I finished writing I read over the poem and felt a rush of happiness and thankfulness for the little things in life that aren't often shown appreciation.
