Classic Christmas
Classic holiday cheer
distant and close family chatting,
Gifts clustered further together as more people arrive
Lights bright, mimicking the faces of everyone in the small home
Treats la yed out, cookies made by Aunt Mersie and Aunt Doll
A chocolate cake, recipe 3 generations old
A girl helps serve eggnog as the sky grows darker
Soon enough the time comes,
The white elephant begins.
Gifts swap and laughter grows,
Drinks clink and our faces glow,
Eventually, the guessing game begins.
Once a year, a jar is set
Full to the brim with candy, yet
No one knows and has to guess
How much is in it, no more no less
Soon enough the festivities end,
The family hugs with goodbyes
And drive off, to separate homes and a bed

When i was younger, every year we would go to my great aunt Mersies home for a while elephant Christmas party. I always loved helping out when it happened, it really does feel like a glowing memory.
