A snowflake during summertime,

Sparkled through the clear blue sky.

It floated past the field,

And into the streets it’ll fly.

It wasn’t made cozy

When it visited the trees.

Even the flowers that turned rosy

Tried to dodge it with intent.

It zoomed through an empty tunnel

Spiraling down the sizzling sand.

It was stopped for a toll

Trapped by insects that ruled the land.

It couldn’t get close to the sun

Waved by the sneering rays of light.

Watching the pain seemed fun

They wanted to set it ablaze.

It found a companion in the daisy

Looking for a place to stay.

The whiteness of their petals

Even bend the same way.

But the stems didn't want to freeze

And the flower didn't like the cold.

They said it didn't attract the bees

So it was left alone on its own.

Tramped on by the animals of the forest

It tried to break up the crowd.

The creatures charged towards it

Scrambling with their chants out loud.

Suddenly the sky seemed to grow dark

A leaf almost burnt golden brown.

The sparks climbed up the bark

Their laughter fueled the flame.

As the world turned a sizzling pot

It thought about the home it never found

The snowflake hugged the green sprout

Then it melted with a tiny cry.

The author's comments:

Since most snowflakes are unique to each other, in my poem, the snowflake represents our differences. The snowflake is beautiful and capable of great things but does not realize its potential because it's left alone to find its home in an unfamiliar and hostile environment. After being unsuccessful with its mission, the animosity of those around towards the snowflake causes the fire that devoured it.

What would you do if you see a snowflake during summertime? Is what the snowflake has to endure worth it to experience summer?
