Why Can't We Meet in the Middle?
I have serenity
I have the cool blues that create the bubbly sea foam
I have peace
But that isn’t enough for me
I crave the excitement and thrill the other has
Why can’t they appreciate their gifts?
I have agitation
I have magma rippling ravenously constantly
I crave peace
Why can’t this be enough?
I long for the calm life the other has
Why can’t they appreciate their gifts?
Crimson and cobalt waves clash
Both sides hurtle hurtful words
Words not spoken by their hearts
But by their jealousy
Why must we continue arguing when it gets us nowhere?
Why do we let our jealousy consume us?
Why can’t we share and appreciate the other?
Why can’t we meet in the middle?

I'm a current senior who will be graduating in the spring. This is the first school year that I've considered submitting to a publication. Writing has always been a hobby of mine and I hope this poem reflects that. I'm, also, currently the creative director of my school's literary magazine.
