Ringing fills my ears

The quiet sounds of the ocean

Bubbles escape my clutches, floating up, up, and away

Pressure builds against my head


Jellyfish wrap their vibrant tentacles around my legs

Are they trying to pull me up, or down?

Either way, it stings

That stinging is chased away by the numb of the cold.

Snaking its way toward my heart

Or did it start there?


Waves crash, but they are above my head

Bits of seafoam bob down to greet me

Schools of tiny fish swim around me, nibbling at my fingers and toes

Soon they draw back, seeing I have nothing more to offer

I smile goodbye at them


Water surrounds me

I am floating

At this moment, immortal.
