Train Tracks
I think back through our conversations
Trying to figure out how we left on the same train
But ended up at two different stations
And I wonder how someone so smart could have thought
It was a good idea to get off
Before the train slowed down, before it even started to stop
I sit around, tracks of tears lead down my cheeks
And I’ve sat in silence so long I can’t recall if I know how to speak
But while I sit, my face stained sad
I think back through the nonversations that we had
And it’s suddenly clear to see
How even though we started in the same way
We ended up in two very different places
You are you and I am me
And let’s face it, we were never meant to be
Because we’re not the passengers, we’re the trains
And we’re stuck on tracks that never cross and never meet
We may have stopped at the same station
But we never, for a moment, had the same destination
