O Romeo
A promise
A wish
A death
In the darkness
Promises,
Like hearts,
Are meant to be broken
So tear me open
Rage against me
A deathly black ocean
But first…
Paint my skies
A dazzling blue
Lighter than the ink
On a page
And write me
Sonnets in your smile
“O Romeo,”
Take all of my flaws,
My insecurities,
And lock them in a cage
Where they cannot take flight
As you say,
“You’re beautiful
And I’ll love you
All my life.”
Wash me in lies
And kiss my dry eyes
And then
When I think I’m coral,
Made for the ocean that is you
Remind me,
I am a lillypad
Alone on the ocean
Take me,
And drown me,
And destroy
My soft elegance
For I am a lillypad
Alone on the ocean
And promises,
Like hearts,
Are meant to be broken.
