winter's here
my chest opens
to welcome a taste
of novel feeling
hidden beside weakness
almost too massive for hope
too small for meditation
words descend my tongue
meaningless, they
hovered through fog
gravity lost its pull
i float within a multitude
of frozen winters
too cold to feel something
i'm detached from my
mind, i must have left it
in fall

Seasonal depression hits me very hard in January. Once the Christmas decorations are taken down and New Year's Eve has passed, I feel emotions really hard. I think this piece can connect with many people, especially teens my age who feel despondent in these winter months.
I really love this poem because it plays with perspective. Particularly, the last line can be perceived in numerous ways: like the season, or the verb. When the season shifts from autumn to winter, I have felt like gravity has a different pull on me; it's almost like I'm "falling".
