He doesn’t know why he’s waking up to the warm, smiling faces of his owners and the kids
He doesn’t know why he is given an extra scoop of food at breakfast
He doesn’t know why they are all hovering over, looking down at him as he eats
He doesn’t know why they grab all of his favorite toys and everyone gets in the car
He doesn’t know why the drive is taking so long, where can they be going?
He doesn’t know why they are pulling into the long gravel driveway at their log cabin
He doesn’t know why all of his friends both people and dog are waiting there to greet him
He doesn’t know why each and every one of them greets him separately with a nice long hug
He doesn't know why everyone is baking him all of his favorite treats
He doesn’t know why everyone is picking up his favorite toys and playing all the games he loves
He doesn’t know why everyone there is showering him with more attention than usual
He doesn’t know why this was the best day ever, is it his birthday? Was he a good boy?
He doesn’t know why this mornings wake up he is greeted with tears and sorrow
He doesn’t know why he has to get into the car and leave everyone else behind
He doesn’t know why everyone is giving him the tightest hugs and saying goodbye with sobs
He doesn’t know why he and his owner have to leave alone, where can they be going?
He doesn’t know why the car comes to a halt outside of the vet’s office
He doesn’t know why his owner is walking him into the office with tear filled eyes
He doesn’t know why he is taken into a room in the back alone with the vet
He doesn’t know why the vet slowly injected him with a long, cold needle
He doesn’t know why his whole body begins to feel like he is falling asleep forever…
