Confessional Poetry
To Leo
Do you remember
the cool wind, ripping through
trees in your backyard?
I remember sitting for hours
letting the grass grow
as vines around our feet
You changed your number
for me, to my birthday
my #22
I came to every game
and loved you from the
ice-cold stands, you’re
the only one I let call me
that stupid nickname
But I hated how you’d
yell, and tell me
your problems are
too much for me
I’d clutch your hand,
wrap you in your sheets
tell you I’m here
through every night terror
And that’s how I left you
a summer’s breeze fluttering
the curtains I bought you
Sometimes I still check
those local rosters, did
you ever make it
to the team?
I still hope
for your dreams.
-your gabby.
