Time
Time,
What an interesting concept.
A concept,
yet a precept.
A precept,
most of us accept.
Except those,
that think it a construct.
A construct?
You know what I think?
I think we’re just dumbstruck.
Dumbstruck,
at how much time has passed.
Passed,
since you took your first steps.
The steps you’ve taken.
Taken,
since your first birthday.
The birthdays you’ve celebrated.
Celebrated,
by spending time with family.
The family you’ve mourned.
Mourned,
since your first funeral.
The funerals you’ve been to.
Been to,
Since you were old enough.
Old enough to understand.
Understand,
that everyone has a time.
A time which can not be surpassed.
Which can not be surpassed,
even in the infinite passage of time.
Time.
What an interesting concept.

I got the inspiration for this piece when listening to a senior speech at my school, which mentioned time passing and memories. I started writing the piece at lunch and by the end of the day I had finalized it. I hadn't had too much poetry experience to this point so it was a bit of a journey but I can thank my creative mind for completing it.
