A World that Disappears
Halt! I cry, my sword drawn
The dragons before me quiver,
Fear clouding their gaze
Power creates adrenaline
That rushes through my veins
I wave my sword, the battle
Rages on around me
The heat of battle surges
Enveloping me in the hazy, red tunnel vision
That appears in the most intense of wars
At last, at last,
I emerge, dripping, from the lake that
Dragons drove me to
The blade of my once-more triumphant sword
Glistens in the early morning
Sunlight
The cheers of my fellow warriors surround me
As I raise my arms above my head,
Soaking in the glory of yet another victory
The sun casts a glow upon the world
Warming my shoulders down to my
Toes
Happiness and glory threatens to
Overwhelm me
But-
What is this?
I feel a tug at my sleeve
An invisible force has
Pulled me out
Of the incredible world found inside
The red covers of a book
Reality rushes back
I feel a homesickness
For a place I have never truly been

I can relate to this piece so much because I'm an avid reader who often experiences the intense disapointment of returning to reality.
