Individuality and Uniqueness

Individuality is like a lone, free bird

Flying high and strong, not a care in the world

Spread your wings and soar despite all bearings

Society and others may try to clip your wings

And scare you into conformity and similarity

When it may be them who are scared of uniqueness

Uniqueness isn’t hard to work with

It can be like a crazy child, unexpected

All over the place and crazy

Yet, that craziness is your craziness

Your uniqueness, your distinctiveness, your you

Identity doesn’t have to be complex

It can be simple, your act, your clothes

Your entire story is originality in itself

Individuality doesn’t have to be so distant

In fact, it’s right in front of you, waiting

Waiting for you to scoop it up and hold it close

Waiting like a puppy for it’s owner

To give the owner the happy, joyfilled licks

Licks of distinction and uniqueness

Individuality doesn’t have to be so taboo

It allows for people to pursue their true self

Allows for people to not hide behind the mask of conformity

And show their true colors, be who they want to be

With all this talk of individuality and uniqueness

Does it not seem like a bad thing now?

Don’t be afraid to face yourself

Reach out to yourself, find yourself

Pursue yourself, and be yourself

I wrote this piece while inspired by a passion of mine, people being themselves and being an individual rather than trying to be like everyone else.
