Cracks
Memory is an unruly mirror.
She is the familiar shine of the glass
You turn to when the camera lens warps your face.
She is the twisting beast
That seeps through the cracks in your foundation,
Edges around your nostrils, from beneath your chin,
Who only emerges when you linger a little too long.
Which is to say,
She doesn’t always tell the truth,
But close enough
To keep you looking back.
