You Were Lost
The rain was pounding, and you were lost
My breath puffed out in a shaky frost
Stumbling down the wet street in the dark
I took off running, heading for the park
I don't know how, but I knew you'd be there
To think what had happened, my thoughts wouldn't dare
I tore down the street and jumped over the gate
Hoping and praying that I wasn't too late
But I found you by the swings, lying on the ground
Impossibly, my voice couldn't make a sound
I fell to my knees tears blurring my sight
The soft glint of metal in the faded moonlight
The rain was pounding and you were lost
