Funeral
I remember when we were young
Hanging out and playing cars
When loving each other meant we were best buds
In my innocence I thought that would last forever
You and I the best of friends
But forever never came
Forever meant something entirely different to the both of us
My forever meant you and me
Buddies until the end
But life didn't work out that way, did it?
Your music still sits on my playlist
We used to listen to this song on repeat
Back when I expected you to stay
Back before divorces
Back before illness
I sit on the bench watching you at soccer practice
We would get ice cream after each and every game
In the back of your dads small sedan
The same car you drive today
I remember sitting down watching your dad draw
Thinking we were watching greatness occur as he came up with a new concept for the little caesars mascot
That was back before the funeral
Back before you moved away
Before, when it was you and me against the world
