2000s Nostalgia
I am from the 2000s.
From the pink Polly pocket shoes,
That squeaked when rubbing in between my teeth.
I am from the sound of the quarters clicking through the gum ball machine,
The dial turning as a gum ball shoots down the tube.
I am from the way those gum balls never cracked no matter how hard I bit down.
I am from the “password incorrect”,
Chiming out of the pink password journal.
I am from the Nickelodeon theme song,
bouncing around my senses in-between every commercial break.
I am from the Wii music,
The tiny Miis bouncing back and forth to the music.
Lately its been feeling,
Much like that time.
The nostalgia is becoming,
Not so nostalgic anymore.
From the returning cereal straws,
The way they dyed your milk
All different shades of the rainbow.
From the returning fashions,
Fishnets are once again an up-and-coming trend.
The now-on-TV shows,
Re-airing virally across almost all platforms.
I'm from the way our 2000s nostalgia,
Isn’t so much nostalgia.
