Destin, FL
Evening, bright sun,
just northwest of Destin:
We took a long stretchy walk
on the copious wet sand,
leaving footprints behind.
A wave from the sea
rose up like an arm,
reaching to the shore
as it replaced our footprints
with its salt water.
The sky sails forward
twisting
knotted clouds
along its journey.
You come closer to me
and hold my dry cold hand
with your small wrist
and slide your other tiny arm
around my waist firmly
as though you know.
Saw through the corner of your blue eyes
the setting sun.
Not so far away, just near
the sand trap,
the gregarious sand crabs
move backwards and backwards
and constantly rebury themselves
as they follow the waves.
