I come from a big family

Being together is a lifeline for us

Family dinners

Movie night

Stories engraved in every wall

I come from noise

Laughter that crawls to every corner of the house

Playful screeches of younger siblings

As their imaginations wander into endless possibilities

I come from countless birthday parties

Ski trips, sports games

Each one I attend leaves me smiling

Changing the way that I act and the way I love

I come from the beaches

New jersey

Outer banks

Costa Rica

Their sand carries washed up memories

Memories I may one day forget

But memories that will never leave me

My family is my lifeline

Though they do not define me

They have shaped me into who I am today

Whatever I will pursue in life

They will always be with me

Because they are where I come from

And they are who I always will go home to

The author's comments:

For English, I had to write a poem about where I am from. However, I do not know a lot about my ancestors. So I did not write about my family history, but the family that has influenced and shaped me through my life. They are where I come from.
