Savage Flames of Fear
Rising above the flames
I gasp for breath.
I fight and claw and scream
For I want it to end.
My heart beats faster and fuels the flames.
I can feel the heat rising.
I can feel it stealing the air.
The smoke clouds my vision and my judgement.
Why can’t I act?
Why is it so hard?
All I want is to be left alone.
To curl into myself and collapse into ash.
But then I feel it,
The faintest brush of cool and thought.
The fire shudders, and an order rings out.
Calm.
The fire fades to embers
And the smoke clears.
My heart slows.
The air grows cool.
Only one can tame my savage flames of fear.
And they are here.

Hi. This poem was inspired by my own feelings of anxiety and how I have a wonderful friend who has helped me overcome those feelings many times.
For those of you who have felt similarly or do now, remember that fire can't burn forever, and from those ashes can come a much more beautiful and grand forest than the one that burned down. In other words, it gets better, I promise.
