I love the way my acne scars have carved into my forehead,
creating a constellation of brown pocks in memoriam of midnight oil and dark chocolate.
I love the way my jagged hair hugs my face,
just as my mother cut it when we couldn’t get our hair done at a salon.
I love the way my belly inflates after each meal,
impregnated with a scrumptious mixture of warmth, gratitude, and Chinese takeout.
And though you may call me fat and greasy and scarred,
I love the way my body marks my past and aims me towards my future.
