You know you dominican when you wake up each sunday

To “Aventura” and the smell of fabuloso

You know your dominican when your abuelos pull your cheeks

Then say “ay mi niño or mi niña”

Or When your grandparents tell you “cuando yo era niño”

Then go on for days telling you stories

about how our life is better than what they had.

Part of being dominican is your grandparents mean the world to you.

You know your dominican when your parents argue which team is better

When half the family is “aguilas”

And the other half is “licey”

When your in the field dirting your shoes with all the kids from “el barrio”

When the boys are surprised that you hit home runs

And when u hear the sound of the bat and ball and its satisfies you

You know your dominican when your hair is curly and dark

When half of the family is dark skin because of the african descendants

And the other half is light skinned because of the european descendants

When your hair is either super curly or wavy

When you see that dominicans come in each color shape and size

We are like a box of assorted chocolates

You know your dominican when you wake up to Mangu eggs salami and queso “frito”

A.K.A “los tres golpes”

When your favorite food is chimi or Pica pollo

When your favorite drink is either passion fruit ”chinola” or Pina colada from punta cana at the beach

When with everything your parents give you “aguacates”

And when your biggest accomplishment is peeling a platano

Being from the carribeans is the biggest flex any person can have!
