If I… Would you laugh at me?

If I Sat Down,

Tears Streaming Down My Half Dominican Half Puterican Face,

Droplets Of Water Coming From My Brown Eyes

Would You Laugh At Me?

If I shaped the stars and the sun,

With a #2 pencil full of led,

Would you laugh at me?

If I looked through a lens Of hope,

To see the bright, ripe moon

Glowing from a distance

Would you laugh at me?

If I try to mimic characters

From an amine,

With a smile of warm joy,

Would you laugh at me?

If I act like myself,

To be your fragile friend

You hold close.

Would you laugh at me?

If I work hard to

Complete Projects

Or videos to make you smile

Would you laugh at me?

If I had bruised myself

Without knowing

Would you laugh at me?

If I embraced

my half Dominican- half Puterican side of my life

Would you laugh at me?

If  I  fall...

Through the swollen pit of life vs death

Would you laugh at me?

If I Replay my favorite songs,

Humming the lyrics

Would you laugh at me?

If I stay...

Or If I go...

Would you laugh at me?

Or have the courage to say… Hello.

I wrote this because this is a question that I do ask myself sometimes. I sometimes wonder about the things that I do that are being laughed at. I think this poem made me more aware of my choice of friends because what if my friends laugh at me for the things I do. I don't want that happening. Coming up with this poem wasn't hard because I thought about things I do in my daily life. From drawing to listening to music, I wonder if people would laugh at me. As a writer, I think this was one of the most open poems I´ve ever written. I normally don’t write about my life and if I do, it usually isn’t so open. My writing has become more meaningful because it’s helping me become more open in sharing certain things. This poem matters a lot to me because I learned more about myself than I ever knew.

I wrote this poem because it shows how teens and preteens wonder if they are laughed at for doing normal things. I decided to not make the font Times New Roman because I wanted the poem to be in the style of handwriting. Handwriting better shows how the person feels about themself. In my 1st stanza, I decided to capitalize all letters because that line was the most open for me and I think it should be all caps because of its importance. I tried to use words that helped create Imagery. I used words like ¨Streaming¨ and ¨swollen¨ to help create a mental image in the reader's head.
