The Sound of Silence
Silence is the loudest sound I’ve heard
It echos in your brain
Squeezing your heart
Silence is the sound of things you didn’t say.
But you wish you did.
You wish you said it
It's the sound of the end,
When you finish a story
When you lose a friend
Silence is the sound of
Waiting
And waiting.
For things to get better.
Silence is the hope that things will get better
Because something so empty
Can only get filled up
Its things inside wanting to come out
Wanting to be said
To be heard by other people.
Instead, all that comes out is
“I’m fine”
Because you don’t want it to be heard
That’s what silence sounds like.

I wrote this poem from my perspective about what silence is. Silence is such a powerful thing that often goes unnoticed. I just wanted to write this poem to show what silence is to some people.
