Expanding Wonder
Leaving the shore, for the deepest depths.
The sun shines down, illuminating everything.
In the shallows the water is crystal clear
Soon enclosed by the darkest blue.
Birds call out and swoop overhead, while fish swim and dive below.
The wind gently graces us
The water reflecting, rippling, reaching across a great expanse.
The kayak gently rocking like a crib.
The bright orb of light hitting the horizon line marking the end.
Leaving behind the rippling water
As it slowly turns to molten lava with the falling fire in the sky.
Vibrant reds and oranges fade to deep blues and purples, then finally black.
Inky darkness is a blanket slowly encompassing us.
Entering the cave of wood,
each branch reaches skyward.
Following the tunnel along its dark road.
A little light on the front of the boat,
Illlumates the path
The final place is reached, all that's left to do is
Look up.
Emerging on the blank canvas.
Each little speck a ball of light.
Piercing through the dark illuminates everything
While still keeping life draped in shadows.
It reaches across the abyss in an arching bridge of light
Connecting everyone and everything under the same night sky.
