You told me your favorite color was blue, so I saved every piece of blue candy I had to give to you

I saved pens, pencils, blankets, pillows, anything blue just to make you smile.

When you grew tired of blue, your favorite color changed to purple.

I gave you my favorite purple hat. Bookbags, purses, grapes, stolen purple lilacs from someone's garden,  it all went to you.

Again, your favorite color went from purple to yellow.

I painted you pictures of the sun and moon, I started collecting yellow ducks and t-shirts. I let myself get stung by bees just to try and catch some for you.

Yellow went to green, green went to pink and pink went to orange. But nothing was ever good enough for you. Colors kept changing and I couldn't satisfy.

Grey was the new color and I was picking up as many cool rocks as I could find while we were out on a walk but then I tripped and one cut open my knee.

Blood was coming out of the open wound and you turned to look at me. You stared into my eyes and you then told me that red was your new favorite.

I knew what I had to do, I didn't want to, but I wanted to please you.

So I lay there, in a pool of my own blood smiling. Because at least for a moment, I made you happy.
