Seventeen
At seventeen she has seen too much and can barely keep up with her overwhelming thoughts
She’s been verbally assaulted by high school boys with dirty minds and told that all that matters is the way that her body looks
She can’t be too skinny where people can see her bones but she can’t be too chubby to the point where her stomach has rolls
And if she has just one slice of pizza she’s picked on for not eating but if she has three or four
damn is she over eating
She wasn’t insecure about her cellulite until one wild night where a man way older than her stopped her to tell her she had “ripples” on her skin and should probably “check that out”
And she used to never care about the way her stomach hung over the top of her jeans when she sat down until the talk all over school was how she was super fat and round
Her butt is something that she hides because she doesn’t like it being stared at by crowds of guys and she always wears a sweater when her shirt is low so she can avoid the boys from calling her a hoe
Harsh words like;
Hoe, whore, slut, fat, ugly
Constantly being passed around from guy to guy like it’s a fun little game they like to play
But while they’re laughing and having fun she’s drowning and losing her desire to continue on
The body of a teenage girl is an object that men like to take advantage of
Young women wouldn’t have to fear their bodies or hate themselves if men could look away or keep their mouths shut
Women aren’t objects, they are human beings that are just trying to live life happily and it’s a shame that even at seventeen she has to hide and cry at the end of every night.

I was inspirred by being a seventeen year old that goes to a public school when i wrote this. Having to deal with feeling insecure and objectified is not an easy thing that young women should ever have to go through.
