Pappy
His chair
In a room full of people but still
it is an island of solitude wishing for the life it once had
His teasing
like a pod of dolphins playing a daily game of tag
demanding me to “put more peanut butter on the crackers!” and
“Don’t forget the beer!” becomes the silent whisper in the air
like a summer breeze brushing past
His jokes
not expected but always the same like finding a sea star washed up on the beach.
Number 42!
His memory
Forever to be in our hearts
like the call to the ocean from far away

This piece was written about my grandpa who recently passed away.
number 42 was a joke that we had because he always had the same jokes/jokes and everytime we said we have heard that one he would say number 42! joking that he numbered his stories/jokes since he told them so often.
