Better in Memory
Going to the beach every summer.
Having a blast every night with my cousins.
We were squished together in a room, all 5 of us.
We shared stories, and stayed up all night.
I slept with my sister, while my cousins slept together.
When you're small, everything is big.
Now it's a little different.
Were all squished together in a tiny room.
All of our clothes, makeup, and swimsuits are everywhere.
There's no room in the bathroom for everyone to get ready.
When you're big, everything is small.

This poem shows that those special moments that you love when you were younger aren't so memorable anymore when you grow up. Every summer I take a trip with my family and my entire Dads side of the family to Gulf Shores, Alabama. When we were younger, the trips were so fun. Don't get me wrong it is still an amazing trip but just in a different way. When we all were little, we could all fit in the room with ease and our clothes were small so they would stay in our suitcase and we wouldn't have to worry about it. Now that we're older, we have all grown up so all 4 of us trying to fit into 2 beds isn't such an easy task anymore. We can make it work but it's not as comfortable as we remember. I described the difference between being squished in a room together when we were younger versus how it is now. I think a strong part of the poem was when I wrote, “When you're small, everything is big.” and “When you're big, everything is small.” I think this showed that something might seem like the best thing in the world when you're small, because everything is so big. But once you're big, those things don't seem as amazing as you remember.
