the humility of heartbreak
if I were to come across you
just once more
walking down the sidewalk
or beside me at a red light
if I were to speak to you
just once more
look you in your eyes
and catch you with my words
I’d tell you
“thank you”
thank you for the little facts
I now get to share with others
thank you for the songs
I still play in my car shamelessly
thank you for all the small things
and all the big things
that you taught me
for showing me videos about cults
for sending me cheesy love songs
for teaching me that there is nothing
more important
then the way I love
if I were to see you
just once more
I’d remember how grateful
I can be for things that are no longer mine
