The Masquerade

It feels as if I've plunged 100 feet

Into the darkness of the ocean

Suffering the pain of emptiness

All I can see is black and white

But I continue to put up a shield

I resemble a geode waiting to be divided

Except the glittering crystals, are my emotions

We put up a false image of ourselves

To chase away the shame and embarrassment of how we feel

If we forget about it for a while

Will it truly be gone?

Alas, the feelings come rushing back

So we resume with our masquerade

And hide our heartache behind feelings of joy

I'm sure they can sense our forged giggles and beams

Our bland glances, as they detect our stoic profile

They fear for us, for our well-being

And become upset with us

Nevertheless, we resume with our masquerade
