In solitude stood I,

A single soul in the world, space, the universe,

Filled with broken oaths and thorned lies,

Emptied of colorful dreams and promises.

In solitude stood I,

A sorrowful soul at the dusk of the setting sun,

Freed from the cold clutches of the darkening clouds,

Soaking in the sun’s shaky glow.

In solitude stood I,

A thoughtful soul in the midst of a natural wonder,

Engulfed in a gamut of divine lights,

Savoring the ordinary yet magnificent sight.

In solitude stood I,

A hopeful soul awaiting the arriving dawn,

Wiping off tears under the starry sky,

Rejoicing at the first trace of the morning light.

Yifei Wang is a 16-year-old Chinese girl studying at Nan Hua High School, Singapore. She enjoys reading books, listening to beautiful melodies, and showing her mind in her own writings if she can spare time from her piles of homework. As a big fan of the Harry Potter series, she dreams of turning into J.K. Rowling in the future.

Covid-19 pandemic is devastating the world. Over the globe, the upright majority are undauntedly wrestling with the evil while a pinch of deformed clowns, some politicians included, are disparaging, lying, stigmatizing, and desperately buck-passing. Walking on the playground after dinner, far away from my family, I lonely wrote the poem to present my feeling of the moment.
