Change
Because I could not stop change
It took over as a crashing wave
Slowly filling up my lungs with a sweet-salty burning
I reached for the water’s surface longing to take another breath
For then I would at least know it was my last
Unable to reach that goal I sank to the ocean floor below
I tried to welcome it with warmth
Maybe then It wouldn’t feel so dark
Alone, my back landed with a thud
And alone I stared up at the sun peeking through deep dark waters
Laying here I knew I was done so I held on tight to the memory of the sun
Its warmth as it danced over my face
That memory no one could erase
And the memory of the moon that moon I nearly worshipped
Its grace and beauty unmatched
I held on to these memories because change was coming and coming too fast
For I could not stop change no matter how hard I would beg and plead
Scratch and kick and bite and scream
For I could not stop change
And it refused to stop for me
