my own worst enemy
yesterday,
a girl told me,
you are your biggest critic.
and i couldn’t stand the person
i saw in the mirror.
her face, her hair, her body
were all distorted
so, i turned away
disgusted.
today,
my biggest critic
was in a better mood.
and when i looked
the person in the mirror,
changed her attitude.
she was pretty, happy, confident
and no one else was there
to tell her any different.

This poem was inspired by all the time I spent alone with myself during quarantine and the experience of hating yourself one day, but loving yourself the next.
