We were close, but yet strangers.

I knew who you were, remembered your face, knew you lies, knew your truths.

But you lost yourself.

And at a certain point I lost you too.

We saw each other at our most vulnerable moments.

I was new to the world when you first saw me,

And you’ve always been somewhat lost.

Inevitably lost.

Not because you wanted to be,

but because you were cursed from the moment you were born.

Once your hair grows gray, your mind will slip through your fingers and out of reach.

Your curse pains everyone around you.

The people you were once so close with,

Became foggy faces and names you could not recall.

As time passes, you start to fade.

You forget your own face, your own lies, your own truths.

It all became a blur.

One big, fuzzy blur until the moment of your last breath.

And for the first time in a very long time,

You weren’t lost.

You were simply gone.

You ironically became the very thing that picked you apart and cursed you,

A memory.

This is about my granny's battle with Alzheimer's disease and how I interpret her journey. She died about a year and a half ago but she was gone a lot longer before she actually took her last breath. She was cursed with Alzheimer's and that affected not only her but everyone around her.
