Love Ages
When we’re old and grey will you love me just the same,
And reflect my pain like the mirror
Does my face.
I’ll wear our scars on my heart
Where it’s coldest
Because after all these years it’s hard frozen.
Like a lake in early spring it may thaw,
But without the comfort of the warm sun
I shall need some time.
As Shirley did I turn to the walls
They might provide me with some affection.
I find it hard to admit that we’re broken,
So I try not to make conversation
Is this how life is to be lived?
Is it what the creators imagined?
To constantly feel this cheated,
I just want to love.
